Micah Christenson: The Quiet Force
CEV-FIVB : Infos ven 29 janvier 2021
At 27, Micah Christenson has already picked up medals and awards that would draw the envy of many star players around the world.
He started out with USA's age group national teams - his talent already bringing in distinctions and awards.
Since getting promoted to the men's national team at the tender age of 20 in 2013, the Hawaii-born setter has been present at all the major successes of USA, including bronze medals at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, and the 2018 FIVB Volleyball World Championship, amongst others. He was also a gold medallist at the 2015 FIVB World Cup, and the 2014 FIVB World League.
Quietly but surely, Christenson has been feeding his USA attacking teammates - as well as those of his Italian clubs where he's been playing since 2015, of Cucine Lube Civitanova and Leo Shoes Modena - with impeccable balls. His performances have earned him Best Setter awards and places on Dream Teams across the board.
There's certainly many long years of even more distinctions ahead, but Christenson is already preparing the next generation:
Young Ezekiel Kupa'a Christenson takes well to his father's sets and responds with some hard hitting - but it's hardly surprising, as he continues a long family tradition: Micah's father played basketball at the University of Hawaii-Hilo and his mother was a two-time All-American and three-time National Champion while playing volleyball at Hilo.
For the time being, Micah Christenson continues to lead Modena in the Italian League and the European Champions League, but having played a pivotal role in the qualification of USA to the grandest event of them all, now also looks ahead to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, scheduled for 2021.
