FIVB Leadership meets key sports stakeholders and media group in Indonesia

FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° and FIVB General Director Fabio Azevedo held a number of highly productive meetings in Jakarta with the aim of boosting the development of the sport in Indonesia by improving the level of the national teams and bringing more hosting opportunities to the country.

The meetings were held with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Olympic Committee of Indonesia, as well as the Emtek Group, Indonesia’s media conglomerate.

The FIVB President, alongside National Volleyball Federation of Indonesia (PBVSI) President Imam Sudjarwo and other members of the FIVB and PBVSI delegations, met with the Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Indonesia, Gunawan Suswantoro, to discuss the positive social impact of volleyball on people’s health and well-being. Also discussed was the opportunity for the Ministry to work together with the FIVB and PBVSI to improve the level of Indonesia’s national teams while boosting the development of volleyball and beach volleyball in the country.

FIVB Delegation meets the Indonesia Olympic Committee

FIVB General Director Fabio Azevedo led the discussions with Indonesia Olympic Committee Secretary General Harry Warganegara, sharing the long-term vision and roadmap for the development of national teams in Indonesia. He also highlighted the overall goal of the national teams qualifying for the FIVB World Championships and, eventually, the Olympic Games.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports and Indonesia Olympic Committee expressed their commitment to working together with the FIVB and PBVSI to support the long-term development plan, as well as requesting additional support via Olympic Solidarity. They also agreed to work with all the parties involved to support the hosting of more international events in the country, and to explore the potential of bidding for the Age Group Volleyball World Championships.

Additionally, the FIVB President, alongside AVC President Rita Subowo and the FIVB and Volleyball World teams, met with the Vice President Director of Emtek Group, CEO of Surya Citra Media (SCM), Sutanto Hartono. The Emtek business group includes three leading nationwide Free-to-Air television services, various digital media properties, as well as a product business.

The group has already had positive experiences working with volleyball and beach volleyball having broadcast the Volleyball Nations League, Italian and Turkish volleyball leagues, Indonesian Proliga as well as beach volleyball events. The audience shares and viewership numbers for these events have demonstrated Indonesia’s huge interest in the sport.

During the meeting with Emtek Group/SCM, the importance of a year-round calendar and the performance of the national teams were discussed. The FIVB reiterated its commitment to supporting the National Federation with coach support, equipment support and knowledge transfer programmes via the Volleyball Empowerment programme.

Following the meetings, the FIVB President said:

“Today we held a number of productive meetings here in Indonesia. I am pleased to see that volleyball, being among the top three sports in the country, is highly rated by major sports stakeholders as well as media groups.

“I am delighted to witness the enthusiasm and commitment of the Ministry of Youth and Sports as well as the National Olympic Committee to join the FIVB and National Federation in writing a new chapter in the journey of volleyball and beach volleyball in Indonesia. We are confident that by working together, we can help Indonesia to reach its full volleyball potential, while developing a national team that wins medals on the biggest stages in our sport and brings national pride through sporting success.”

FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F°, AVC President Rita Subowo and PBVSI President President Imam Sudjarwo will now travel to Yogokarta for the finals of the women’s and men’s Proliga, Indonesia’s top professional league for volleyball clubs.
