FIVB President meets National Olympic Committee of Kenya President and IOC Member Paul Tergat

· The FIVB has invested nearly 600,000 CHF into the Kenya women’s national team through Volleyball Empowerment


· The project is supported by the National Olympic Committee of Kenya, alongside the Kenya Volleyball Federation and Olympic Solidarity


· Notably, the Kenya women’s team was crowned African Nations Champions in 2023, clinching the title for the first time since 2015



FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° met with Paul Tergat, an IOC member and President of the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K), earlier this week to discuss the resounding success of the Volleyball Empowerment supported Kenya women’s national team.


Paul Tergat, a renowned Kenyan former long-distance runner and two-time Olympic silver medallist, praised the support of almost 600,000 CHF provided by the FIVB. This support aims to accelerate the development of the Kenya women’s national team in preparations for the Olympic Games Paris 2024 and future competitions.


The project is also supported by the NOC-K, Kenya Volleyball Federation and the International Olympic Committee via an Olympic Solidarity Team Support Grant.

NOC-K President and IOC Member Paul Tergat said:


“It is always a pleasure to meet President Ary Graça and reflect on our successful collaboration in supporting the Kenya women’s national team on its road to success! We have witnessed a number of incredible achievements from the team, including being crowned African Nations Champions last year for the first time in eight years, and we are delighted to continue working together on this project as we aim to qualify for Paris 2024.”

Paul Tergat previously visited the FIVB HQs in 2023 and met with FIVB General Director Fabio Azevedo and several departments
