The FIVB joins the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in celebrating Play True Day 2023 as it reiterates its unwavering commitment to protecting clean sport and clean athletes.

The FIVB’s campaign to promote clean sport includes the continuous expansion of its efforts to ensure volleyball and beach volleyball are played on level playing field. The latest milestone in these efforts was the delegation of its global anti-doping testing programme to the International Testing Agency (ITA) for independent management from the beginning of 2023 until the end of 2025. Meanwhile, the FIVB retains results management of any potential anti-doping rule violations.

From 2013 to 2022, the FIVB conducted 4,269 tests during and outside of volleyball and beach volleyball competitions, and less than 1% of the test results were positive.

The FIVB continues to raise awareness about doping among volleyball and beach volleyball players and support the values of clean sports. Through its partnership with the ITA, all members of the global Volleyball Family, including athletes, National Federations, coaches, FIVB licensed agents, referees and FIVB Instructors, were invited to participate in a five-part multi-lingual seminar series tackling anti-doping, the principles of clean sport, doping control processes and out-of-competition testing.

The FIVB’s compliance with the World Anti-Doping Code is checked on a regular basis, with it successfully concluding a WADA audit at the end of January 2023 and receiving positive feedback overall about its anti-doping programme.

Since 2014, Play True Day is celebrated every year by the anti-doping community worldwide to advocate for clean sport and raise awareness among athletes, the sporting public and others on the importance of preventing doping in sport.
