FIVB Volleyball Empowerment Commission committed to development of national teams worldwide
CEV-FIVB : Infos jeu 2 février 2023The FIVB Volleyball Empowerment Commission, hosted its annual meeting in a hybrid format to reiterate its commitment to supporting national teams, athletes and National Federations (NFs) to achieve their goals and reach their full potential.
The Commission President, an Olympic champion at Sydney 2000, Vladimir Grbic, and Secretary Ramon Suzara, joined the meeting from the FIVB Headquarters in Lausanne Switzerland, alongside the President and Secretary of the FIVB Development Commission, Mushtaque Mohammed and Zdeslav Barac, joining as observers.
During the meeting, the Commission discussed the overall Volleyball Empowerment and development programmes with 642 projects, both application-based and targeted support, approved since 2017.
Meanwhile, targeted support continues to raise the standard of professional volleyball, with 10 countries having been identified to date based on a NF’s proactivity, undiscovered talent and unrealised potential. This totalled an investment of over 3 million USD.
During the Volleyball Empowerment Commission meeting, FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° shared the impact of one of the projects:
“You will have also seen that the Volleyball Empowerment pilot project with the Kenya women’s national volleyball team continues to have a profound impact with the team achieving a final placement of 19th at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship 2022, its best ever result. We have heard from the players themselves that the Volleyball Empowerment programme changed their mentality and helped them to understand the sport at a deeper level.
“And it has also led to several national team players turning professional and signing with big clubs in Greece and Turkey. Volleyball Empowerment has set Kenyan volleyball on a new path to a brighter future, and we can all be proud of this. So, as you can see, our efforts in development and volleyball empowerment are accelerating every single year. It is a key pillar of the FIVB’s work.”
The Volleyball Empowerment Commission President, an Olympic champion at Sydney 2000, Vladimir Grbic, said:
"What the FIVB is doing via the Volleyball Empowerment programme is not just taking credit, the numbers and success stories are clear proof of how these projects change the reality of the sport in countries around the world in an effective and transparent way.
"In the last 10 years, under the leadership of President Dr Ary Graça, the FIVB has done more than any previous administrations in terms of development. The numbers speak for themselves!"
The Volleyball Empowerment Commission also discussed the work of the working groups and received a demonstration on the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment Projects Dashboard, a tool that is open to everyone to check all the projects and the FIVB’s investment in development since 2017 in a very transparent way. The Commission also highlighted the contribution of the Olympic Solidarity programmes to developing the teams worldwide.
