The FIVB Rules of the Game and Refereeing Commission hosted its annual meeting this week to discuss the success of this year’s events and the upcoming tournaments for 2023.

The meeting was held in a hybrid format with the Commission President Guillermo Paredes and Secretary José Casanova joining from the FIVB Headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, while the other members joined via videoconference.

During the meeting, a number of important topics were discussed, including the reports on the 2022 competitions, courses and meetings. Additionally, various proposals to be submitted to the FIVB Board of Administration were discussed.

FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° said:

“2022 has been a very important year for our sport – with three World Championships in volleyball and beach volleyball as well as the Volleyball Nations League, the Beach Pro Tour and Club World Championships events. I would like to thank all the referees for their great work.

“Next year will be no less important, as teams start their qualification journey for the Olympic Games Paris 2024. So we need to keep the level of refereeing very high at all the events. Please remember that with the current World Rankings every match counts!”

Additionally, the FIVB President praised the great work of female referees at events:

“I would also like to mention that we continue to support and encourage our female referees. During the VNL women’s finals this year, we had an all-female referee crew and it was very successful.”

The FIVB Rules of the Game and Refereeing Commission finishes the set of Commission gatherings this year, with a few other meetings scheduled for the beginning of 2023.
