FIVB President meets Mexico’s Sports Minister at FIVB Headquarters.

FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° this week welcomed Mexico’s Sports Minister Ana Guevara and Mexican beach volleyball promoter Gabriel Ramos to discuss the preparations for the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships 2023, as well as the ongoing coach support provided to the Mexican volleyball and beach volleyball national teams through Volleyball Empowerment.

The FIVB President was joined by FIVB General Director Fabio Azevedo and Volleyball World CEO Finn Taylor. During the meeting, the FIVB President congratulated the Sports Minister on the highly successful Beach Pro Tour events held in March, namely the Elite16 event in Tepic and Challenge event in La Paz. Discussions naturally focused on the highly anticipated Beach Volleyball World Championships, which will be staged across three cities in Mexico this October.

“Mexico is a long-term trusted partner of the FIVB, and it is always a great pleasure to welcome Minister Guevara to our headquarters. Her vision for sports development in Mexico, especially when it comes to beach volleyball, is remarkable, and we cannot wait to visit the country later this year for the prestigious Beach Volleyball World Championships,” the FIVB President said.

“The FIVB sees huge potential in developing volleyball and beach volleyball in Mexico as we have invested over 500,000 USD in providing coach support to its men’s and women’s volleyball and beach volleyball national teams over the past few years. We are sure that the FIVB’s investment, combined with that of the Mexican government and Ministry of Sports, will bring incredible results and more medals for the country in the years to come.”

Arenas in Tlaxcala, Huamantla and Apizaco will welcome the 14th edition of the 2023 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship in Mexico for the first time this year. The championships, which will be staged between 6-15 October, will be the first hosted outside of Europe in 20 years. Not since Rio hosted the world’s best in 2003 has beach volleyball’s showpiece event taken place on Latin American sand. With 48 teams per gender in the running to lift the title, the 2023 edition takes on extra special significance with the winners guaranteeing their nation a place at the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
