Tunisia has been selected as the host nation for both the men’s and women’s African Volleyball Club Championships 2023.

The North African country will host the continental competition for the third consecutive year having successfully staged the 2021 and 2022 editions in the cities of Kelibia and Tunis, respectively.

This year’s edition will see the men’s competition take place from 9 to 22 May while the women’s tournament will serve off on 13 May and end on 26 May, both in Tunis.

African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) President Bouchra Hajij expressed confidence in the host nation and invited National Federations to send more teams to this year’s edition:

“We are happy to confirm Tunisia once again as a suitable host for both the men’s and women’s African Volleyball Club Championships. We are convinced that they will stage an incredible tournament after successful 2021 and 2022 editions and look forward to high level volleyball action from our top African clubs.

“We would like to encourage more clubs to register for this year’s edition and showcase their teams in this important African tournament. We want to ensure more opportunities for African players to showcase their performances in the battle for the African club champion’s title.”

Kenyan side Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) will be out to defend their women’s title while Egyptian giants Al Ahly will put their men’s champion title on the line during the two week competition.

Tunisia’s CFC Carthage, record African champions Al Ahly and Kenyan champions Pipeline are some of the clubs expected to challenge KCB for the women’s title.

Last year’s finalists Esperance, Libya’s Al Ahli Tripoli and arch rivals Zamalek will be among the title contestants in the men’s competition alongside defending champions Al Ahly.

Each National Federation may register a maximum of three club teams, while the federation from which the defending champion comes may register a maximum of four teams.
