The Mozambique Volleyball Federation has been benefitting from both coach and volleyball equipment projects since 2017, thanks to the FIVB’s revolutionary programme of Volleyball Empowerment.

The FIVB’s support included 12 months of coach support in 2021 and 2022, and the appointment of Brazilian coach Alexandre Pontel. Pontel’s experience at the elite level of beach volleyball has proven key in training and empowering national coaches, as well as improving tactical awareness and results on the court. The FIVB has also provided volleyball equipment support, with 100 Mikasa volleyballs in 2017 and 2021, 50 volleyballs in 2019 and various equipment in 2020.

With the FIVB’s support, Mozambique’s beach volleyball players now have the level of training and equipment to start targeting qualification for major events such as age group and senior World Championships, as well as future editions of the Olympic Games.

“The FIVB remains committed to raising the standard of volleyball around the globe. By reinvesting the money that comes from the sport back into the sport and supplying equipment and expertise, we can increase participation and access for all.

“We are excited with the progress that has already been made by athletes of all ages thanks to the good work of Coach Alexandre Pontel, who has instilled a deeper technical knowledge into beach volleyball players across Mozambique. We look forward to seeing the next generation of Mozambican beach volleyball players competing at major events.”

Head Coach Alexandre Pontel said:

“The support given to us by the FIVB has enabled us to begin assembling a strong base of junior and senior athletes who can now focus on developing as players due to targeted coaching and increased accessibility through equipment support.
