French beach volleyball gets Volleyball Empowerment boost ahead of Paris 2024
CEV-FIVB : Infos mer 17 août 2022The FIVB, in cooperation with the French Volleyball Federation (FFvolley), has been supporting the France national beach volleyball teams through Volleyball Empowerment targeted support, with the aim of leveraging the Olympic Games Paris 2024 to further the sport’s development.
This year’s targeted support project follows three years of coach support from 2019-2021, and implements a multi-stakeholder approach to maximise funding. The total annual cost of the project is 1.3 million USD, with the FIVB contributing 17 per cent of this total. The remaining funding comes from a partnership with the National Federation, National Olympic Committee, Ministry of Sports and the Government.
The support has helped FFvolley strengthen the staff of its beach volleyball department around Head Coach Lissandro Dias Carvalho, with an additional physical trainer, a statistician, a physician and two physiotherapists to work with the teams all year round. French beach volleyball has also been bolstered by the addition of two high-level indoor volleyball players, Julien Lyneel and Remi Bassereau.

FIVB President Dr Ary S Graça F° said:
“With French volleyball currently at a world-class level, there is no doubt there is undiscovered talent and unrealised potential when it comes to beach volleyball in France. This potential is exactly what we are aiming to unlock through targeted national team support by providing the relevant human and technical resources to improve their national teams.
“This support is only possible through our tried and tested multi-stakeholder support model with other stakeholders within the Olympic Movement and other sports bodies, as well as local governments, to ensure the best possible results and a long-lasting legacy for the sport in the respective country. This model is working very well in France, and we’re excited to follow the national teams on their development journeys to Paris 2024.”
The goal of the project is for the national teams to reach the podium at Paris 2024 and, ultimately, build a lasting legacy for beach volleyball development in France with the Olympic Games as a vehicle to steer people towards the sport in the country.

FFvolley President Eric Tanguy said:
“The FIVB’s targeted support has allowed us to better structure and strengthen the staff of our beach volleyball sector. We have already seen great results on the court at Beach Pro Tour Challenge events, and both our men’s and women’s teams competed at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships for the first time since 2014 and finished 17th.
“While our short-term priority is Paris 2024, our long-term aim is for consistent international success. So we will look to capitalise on the Olympic legacy and use this to elevate the French teams for the Olympic Games LA28 and Brisbane 2032.”
Head Coach Lissandro Dias Carvalho said:
“The FIVB Volleyball Empowerment support is precious and vital for the continual development and strengthening of the French national teams both in view of Paris 2024 and for the future.
“We have already achieved some good results and received positive feedback on the growth of French beach volleyball by international beach volleyball experts. This shows us that we are on the right path, and we are very excited for the next step.”
